Lake of Bays Anglican Parish Cemeteries

Both St. Ambrose and St. James cemeteries serve their respective communities by providing a dignified disposition of human remains in accordance with provincial statutes and municipal by-laws which we are legally bound to.

Both cemeteries are the final resting place for members of our Faith Community and beyond.  A sacred place where the remains of loved ones are shown honour and respect in a peaceful and well-kept environment.  They serve as a historical, memorial, spiritual, and aesthetic greenspace for our town of Baysville and our village of Port Cunnington.

Please note:  If the original owners of a cemetery plot have passed without leaving anything in writing to authorize a specific burial, then the cemetery cannot allow the burial even if there is room for them in the plot.  The only exception is if all the living descendants of the original owners agree to allow the burial, because under inheritance law all the descendants have equal 'claim' on unused spots.

If too many generations of descendants have passed to trace a line of permission, it is standard operating procedure for the cemetery to declare the plots 'closed' as no line of permission for future burials can be established.  If a family objects or has any questions, they need to contact the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, as they provide a fantastic explanation of the law and how it is applied in this matter.

Unless the entire line of descendants can come together and authorize these burials, the cemetery's hands are tied and the answer is 'no'.
